Me and my bedroom wall mural 1975

Decorative painting project

Zooming a sip and paint party

I’m Val Zee — artist, maker, teacher, and a woman with something to say.

My creativity started early (thanks Mom and Dad for letting me paint on my bedroom wall), and it never really stopped. I then went on to climbing scaffolding and founded SmartArtStudios, my decorative painting business.

Over time, I pulled away from the ladders and entered the classroom — leading workshops for seniors, kids, adults and even skeptics. (Yes, you can paint.)

I eventually went back to college and finished my art degree, because if you're chasing a dream you need to chase it all the way!

Today I spend my time in the studio working with mixed media and collage. My current work explores themes like feminism, identity, aging, visibility and memories.

And now for a new chapter

For Fem Sake — my streetwear line built from my artwork and own voice. It’s bold, a little sarcastic and fueled by the urge to get something off my chest (and onto a t-shirt). It’s where art meets attitude — and maybe a little activism, too.

I don’t live in one lane. I live a full creative life that is still evolving. Whether you're here to paint art, wear art or collect art, welcome to my site!
