I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember. My first “canvas” was my bedroom wall back in 1975 — a full-on mural experiment that gave me permission to create without asking.
(Thanks, mom and dad!)
I owned a decorative-painting business, climbed more ladders than I can count, and eventually moved into teaching. Seniors, kids, adults, total skeptics — I’ve taught them all. And yes, everyone can paint.
Later, I returned to school to finish my art degree. I hadn’t had the chance before, and when I did, it was the perfect moment. I had great teachers, incredible classmates, and it gave me the space to really grow.
Today I work in mixed media and collage, pulling from old magazines, memory, humor, frustration, aging, feminism, identity — all the beautiful and messy things it means to be a woman in the world. My pieces hold stories, bite a little, and look you right in the eye.
In 2025 I started For Fem Sake — my streetwear line built from my artwork and my own voice. Bold, sarcastic, honest. Art you can wear.
It’s part art, part attitude, part therapy. It’s me, but louder.
I don’t live in one creative lane. I never have.
Whether you’re here to collect, wear or make art — welcome.
I’m Val Zee — artist, teacher and a woman with something to say.
